Dr Roberts is a Consultant Forensic and General Psychiatrist.  He is engaged in private psychiatric practice in Sydney.  He is a credentialed psychiatrist with admitting rights at The Sydney Clinic in Bronte.  He held the position of Medical Director and Medical Superintendent of The Sydney Clinic from 2008 to 2021.  Dr Roberts is a Conjoint Lecturer of the University of New South Wales.

Dr Roberts was previously a Senior Visiting Medical Officer in Psychiatry at Justice Health and a Visiting Psychiatrist at Long Bay Correctional Centre. He was previously the Visiting Psychiatrist at Bathurst Correctional Centre and Mid-North Coast Correctional Centre at Kempsey.  He provides psychiatry services to inner-city residential hostels.

Dr Roberts is a WorkCover Independent Medical Examiner (IME) and an Assessor of Permanent Impairment. He is a Motor Accident Authority Assessor of Permanent Impairment and Medical Assessor with the Dispute Resolution Service for the Personal Injury Commission (PIC). He is a Medical Review Panel Assessor for the Motor Accident Authority with the Personal Injury Commission (PIC).

Dr Roberts completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at The University of Adelaide.  He completed his Graduate Certificate in Forensic Mental Health at James Cook University in Queensland.  He undertook internship and residency at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney. 

His psychiatry training was undertaken at Central Sydney Area Health Service, Southeastern Sydney Area Health Service and Southwestern Sydney Area Health Service.  He undertook training in Forensic Psychiatry at Justice Health in New South Wales.  He has previously worked in the acute inpatient psychiatry ward (D-Ward) of Long Bay Hospital, at the Drug Court Clinic at the Metropolitan Reception and Remand Centre in Silverwater and provided psychiatry clinics at Lithgow Correctional Centre and Kirconnell Correctional Centre.

Dr Roberts is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.  He is an Accredited Member of the Faculty of Forensic Psychiatry and a member of the Section of Addiction Psychiatry.  He is a member of the Australasian Association of Psychology, Psychiatry and the Law and the Australasian Professional Society on Alcohol and other Drugs.  Dr Roberts was awarded membership of the Australasian College of Legal Medicine in 2011.
