Dr Yeates is a Consultant Psychiatrist based in Glebe and Sydney CBD. His specialty areas of expertise include General Psychiatry and Dynamic Psychotherapy/Psychoanalysis. He has formal training in complex trauma and a background in acute inpatient psychiatry. Dr Yeates holds the position of Honorary Associate at the University of Sydney.
Dr Yeates undertakes psychiatric assessments at MedicoLegal Psychiatry in Sydney, including but not limited to psychiatric assessments for civil matters, such as historical sexual abuse, medical negligence, public liability, work injury damages claims and fitness for work. He has completed the WorkCover training in assessing psychiatric impairment and assessing Workers’ Compensation matters. He is a Medical Assessor with the NSW Personal Injury Commission.
Dr Yeates has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and undertaken presentation and teaching roles for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. These have included examination marking and advanced training subcommittee membership. In addition to his qualifications as a Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr Yeates has engaged in specific additional training, including Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy Training at the Anna Freud Centre, London, UK, and a Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Course at the Sydney Institute for Psychoanalysis. He completed an elective term at the Tavistock & Portman, London. He undertook his training as a Psychoanalyst under the auspices of the Australian Psychoanalytical Society and is expected to complete it in early 2024.
Dr Yeates is a Teaching Faculty Member of the Westmead Psychotherapy Program for treatment of Complex Traumatic Disorders. He was previously a Staff Specialist and Psychotherapy Educator at Western Sydney Local Health District, providing services to Cumberland and Westmead Hospitals, and he was a Staff Specialist and Director of the Manning Unit at Macquarie Hospital.
Dr Yeates completed a Bachelor of Arts with Honours at Macquarie University and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Sydney. His psychiatry training was undertaken at Northern Sydney Area Health Service, Orange Health Service, and the Cumberland Hospital.
Dr Yeates is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Psychiatrists. He is a member of the Faculty of Psychotherapy.
