Dr Fukui is a Consultant Psychiatrist in private psychiatric practice in Sydney. She also holds the position of Visiting Medical Officer at the Professor Marie Bashir Centre, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. She is a Consulting Specialist to the Australian Defence Force.
Dr Fukui’s medicolegal roles include Medical Assessor for the Personal Injury Commission for Motor Accident medical disputes and permanent impairment assessments and Review Panel Assessor. She is a Council Appointed Psychiatrist to the Health Professional Councils Authority (HPCA) and an Independent Medical Examiner for AHPRA for impairment assessments. She provides medicolegal reports in matters pertaining to medical negligence, public liability, personal injury and permanent impairment assessments for the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA).
In clinical psychiatry, Dr Fukui has extensive experience in the public sector and private practice. She is an RANZCP approved Supervisor for Psychiatrists-in-training.
She has previously held consultant psychiatrist positions at Ryde Community Mental Health Centre, Wagga Wagga Base Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital, Macquarie Hospital, Ryde, Bloomfield Hospital, Orange, Port Macquarie Hospital and Gosford Mental Health Centre. She has also worked in rural private practice in Wagga Wagga and has previously worked in private practice in Darlinghurst, Paddington and at the Albert Road Clinic, Melbourne. She was a Visiting Medical Officer at Evesham Clinic, Sydney.
Dr Fukui gained her medical qualifications (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) at the University of New South Wales and a Bachelor of Science at the University of Sydney. She later completed a Graduate Management Qualification at the Australian Graduate School of Management, University of New South Wales.
She spent eleven years working in the pharmaceutical industry, primarily in neuroscience. Her roles included Product Physician, in management and senior management for global pharmaceutical companies including director and consultancy roles with Biogen Idec, Janssen-Cilag, Novartis, Pfizer, Eli Lilly Australia and Sanofi-Synthelabo.
Dr Fukui has been a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists since 1993 and is a member of the section of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. She is a Member of The Australian and New Zealand Association of Psychiatry, Psychology and Law and an International Member, American Psychiatric Association.
